My end of year post is overdue, but here it is. I

My end of year post is overdue, but here it is. I have a love/hate relationship with social media. I love the way it can connect us - I love seeing all of the wonderful things my friends are doing. But I also feel like it gives us the illusion of community. I’ve been thinking a lot about community lately, and maybe it’s because I’m a Gen Xer, but I miss when we had to pick up the phone to know how someone was doing. Our social circle was smaller, but I felt like the connections were deeper.

2024 was amazing and challenging. My shop is flourishing. I have a great team of people there. We moved into our new home and I love it. On the same token, being a mom to a severely autistic child is hard. It’s isolating. We are doing things like planning his care for when we’re gone, because he will always need care. We’re wondering how we’re going to weather his meltdowns as he gets bigger and older. Things that other people take for granted, like going to the grocery store, or visiting with friends, are incredibly difficult. We came home early from vacation because it was proving too much for him.

I guess I’m telling all of y’all this stuff because this is real life. Social media shows all of the highlights of our lives, but in reality, for most of us, it’s a mix of everything. I try to be thankful for the positives and weather the storm of the negatives. But at the end of the day, I’m glad I’m here. I’m grateful for my job, my shop, my clients (seriously, y’all are the best), and my family.

I hope everyone takes the best with the worst and makes the best of it in 2025.

A small first tattoo, no biggie. My client, Adam, wanted a phoenix tattoo but wanted a more muted color palette and wanted its head to be less pointy, if that makes sense. We did this over four sessions. Outline in one and then shading over the other three. This session we just finished up the body and head, so most of this is healed.

Reposting this one because my other pic looked really dark for some reason. I don’t know what Instagram wants these days - videos, but not too long, but also some hashtags but not too many, but also pictures but only certain kinds. I really have no idea. I’d like to just tattoo please. 😂 I enjoyed doing this one and I hope you enjoy looking at it. All of the linework is healed. Half of the color is healed. We finished the lower part of the color and the inside of the arm in the last session. I’m going to end this post with no hashtags because yolo. Are we still using yolo? K bye
